WELCOME TO MUSINGS - THE MASTER OF MUSEUM STUDIES STUDENT PUBLICATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO
To provide a platform for opinions, critiques, and discussions of contemporary museum* practices by emerging museum professionals.
* Museums = art, history, civilization, culture museums; heritage sites; historic homes; public memorials; science centres; botanical gardens; world fairs; theme parks; the circus; digital exhibitions; pop-up museums; etc.
As part of the interdisciplinary community in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto and the museum sector more broadly, Musings highlights the professional and academic explorations of Master of Museum Studies(MMSt)and Combined Degree Program(CDP)candidates. As a progressive and collaborative digital platform, Musings encourages those individuals connected to the MMSt program to share research, reflections, and practice, to join and actively contribute to the dialogue amongst museum professionals, locally and globally.
To function as an accessible forum and creative outlet that digitally facilitates the discovery, exploration, and sharing of knowledge amongst the MMSt community at the University of Toronto as well as with the international museum sector.
'FALCON DEERKING' LOGO
The Falcon DeerKing design was created by Laura Bydlowska, a former MMSt student. Authors John H. Falk and Lynn D. Dierking, who published a number of books about museum and visitor experience, were the inspiration for this design. This illustration was originally used in a t-shirt design contest, facilitated by the MSGSA (former name for MUSSA) held during the 2010-2011 school year.
